The boys and girls had fun learning rhyming words during our Nursery Rhymes unit last week. I read several rhymes every day and focused on one of the following each day: Hey Diddle, Diddle, Humpty Dumpty, Little Miss Muffet, One, Two, Buckle My Shoe. Singing a few songs along with Jack Hartmann's "Rhyming to Read" CD was definitely a favorite activity! Here is a link to Jack Hartmann's Web site: http://www.jackhartmann.com/ I use several of his songs and videos to reinforce learning strategies. The children loved the following video when I taught the numbers 1-5:
We learned 8 color sight words in the past few weeks: red, blue, green, yellow, purple, black, orange, brown. They have also learned: I, a, my, see, the. Please review each sight word with your child by using flash cards (index cards or paper), chanting, cheering, and using them in sentences.
Tomorrow night (Monday, 9/9/13) is the Watch D.O.G.S.(Dads of Great Students) Kick-Off night from 6:00 to 7:00 in the gym. Come on out and enjoy some pizza and soda and an informational meeting about the program. Also the library's book fair will be open from 5:30 to 7:30.
This weekend (Friday & Saturday 9/13-9/14) is Conway's Old Fashion Community Days! Our candidates for Little Mr. and Miss Community Days are: Gage and Abbie. Please vote for them in area businesses. It's a penny a vote. Thanks for your support!
