Hello! I am very hopeful that our Donor's Choose project will get funded from Sonic's Limeades for Learning campaign this fall. Sonic has helped LOTS of classrooms across America each year through Donors Choose.org. However, I do need your help. It's really easy and only takes a few minutes each day. Please vote for our project and inform your family and friends to help us too! After voting 10 times, you will receive a code that is worth 2 votes! Also if you purchase food/drinks from Sonic, save the codes (stickers) from the packaging because they may be applied to our project. Here's the link:
I am requesting a mini i-Pad, case, and power strip. The kiddos will be able to use it during Guided Reading and small math groups. I have another project posted (supplies), but I'm focusing on one at a time. I also have a project that is still under review and it should be an "active" project soon on Donors Choose.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. I appreciate your help and support. I know the children will benefit greatly from the project I'm requesting. :)
Grandparent's Day was enjoyed by everyone last week! The boys and girls did a great job performing 3 songs for the grandparents and special friends. I think their favorite song was "Humpty Dumpty"! They were so cute and I know their grandparents were so proud. They enjoyed refreshments, had photos taken, went to the Book Fair, and visited in the classroom. Each student made hand prints and completed special booklets for the grandparents. They also created self portraits of what they look like "now" and what they think they'll look like as "grandparents". All the kindergarten pictures were displayed in the front hallway for everyone to see. It was nice meeting everyone's grandparents!
Here are a few books read aloud last week:
What Grandmas Do Best/What Grandpas Do Best (also included in the book)
The students also performed a song, A Beautiful Day, with motions in the classroom. It's a song by Jack Hartmann and the kiddos love it!
Last week we also focused on Heroes and Patriotism for Patriot's Day (Sept. 11th). I read September 12th - We Knew Everything Would Be Alright and books about firefighters/policemen.
Each student also made American Flags which were displayed in our hallway for Grandparent's Day.
We had beautiful weather for Community Days over the weekend! Congratulations to Gage for winning the Little Mr. Community Days! Also thanks to Abbie and her family for working so hard. I am proud of both of them! They both rode in the parade. I saw a few of you while I worked at the CTA Funnel Cake booth Saturday afternoon with my husband. Thanks for coming by and saying "hello"!
The boys and girls had fun learning rhyming words during our Nursery Rhymes unit last week. I read several rhymes every day and focused on one of the following each day: Hey Diddle, Diddle, Humpty Dumpty, Little Miss Muffet, One, Two, Buckle My Shoe. Singing a few songs along with Jack Hartmann's "Rhyming to Read" CD was definitely a favorite activity! Here is a link to Jack Hartmann's Web site: http://www.jackhartmann.com/ I use several of his songs and videos to reinforce learning strategies. The children loved the following video when I taught the numbers 1-5:
We learned 8 color sight words in the past few weeks: red, blue, green, yellow, purple, black, orange, brown. They have also learned: I, a, my, see, the. Please review each sight word with your child by using flash cards (index cards or paper), chanting, cheering, and using them in sentences.
Tomorrow night (Monday, 9/9/13) is the Watch D.O.G.S.(Dads of Great Students) Kick-Off night from 6:00 to 7:00 in the gym. Come on out and enjoy some pizza and soda and an informational meeting about the program. Also the library's book fair will be open from 5:30 to 7:30.
This weekend (Friday & Saturday 9/13-9/14) is Conway's Old Fashion Community Days! Our candidates for Little Mr. and Miss Community Days are: Gage and Abbie. Please vote for them in area businesses. It's a penny a vote. Thanks for your support!
Here is an opportunity to help our school receive money from Target! It doesn't cost you anything, just a little time. If you have a Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ account, you will be able to vote once a week for our school. You may vote until September 21 or until $5 million has been awarded, whichever occurs first. It takes just 25 votes to start. After that, Target will donate $25 to your selected school. Upon receiving 25 votes, each additional vote equals $1 more for up to $10,000 per school. I started this blog to share what your little kiddos have been learning in Kindergarten. It is still "under construction", but I plan to share upcoming events, learning activities, books we've read, projects completed, and lots more!
